Trade and Investment Adviser (Tokyo based)
A Trade and Investment Advisor of LTIO is a job to attract Japanese companies’ direct investment into Luxembourg, by providing information on the business environment and potential opportunities in Luxembourg, while supporting Luxembourg-based companies for their market entry into Japan, when needed. The job requires professional experiences/skills in business, excellent communication skills, ability to work with business (both private and public), stakeholders relationship management ability, interest in acquiring knowledge of new sectors and flexibility. Experience of foreign direct investment or trade promotion or other relevant sales experience is welcome. Fluency (business-level) in both English and Japanese is a must. French and/or German knowledge is a plus. The working place will be in Tokyo at the Embassy of Luxembourg to Japan, but the advisor should occasionally travel to visit Japanese companies and institutions when needed.
The successful candidate will be offered a gross annual salary above 7.000.000 JPY, depending the experiences, with a generous paid holiday package, enrollment in “Koseinenkin” Pension and health insurance. Other detailed conditions to be presented and discussed during the course of selection.
The working hours are 8 hours a day, 5 days a week. The office is open Monday-Friday usually but the job may require working overtime in particular when high-level delegations visit Japan.
We would like to clarify that LTIO Tokyo does not provide visa sponsorship. Therefore, the candidate should either be a Japanese national or a person who has the necessary visa and work authorization to be employed in Japan.

About Luxembourg Trade and Investment Office – Tokyo
The Luxembourg Trade and Investment Office (LTIO) – Tokyo is an economic promotion body affiliated to the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, Defence, Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade of Luxembourg. It is closely aligned with the headquarter, the Directorate of Foreign Trade and Investment of the Ministry, as well as the network of the LTIOs in 8 other cities in the world. LTIO Tokyo is an office of 4 persons, integrated in the Embassy of Luxembourg in Tokyo, who aims at enhancing the bilateral economic exchange between Luxembourg and Japan. Its main activities are the attraction of Japanese companies’ direct investment into Luxembourg as well as the support to Luxembourg companies who try to develop their businesses in Japan. By working here, the staff members can obtain working experiences to support cross-border trade and investment projects in various sectors, through interaction with companies/institutions from Luxembourg and Japan.
About Trade and Investment Advisor:
As a Trade and Investment Advisor, your activities’ focus is to promote Japanese companies’ direct investment into Luxembourg, by providing information on the legal framework, market environment and potential business opportunities in Luxembourg. Based on the economic development policies of the Luxembourg Government, you will identify and establish contact with potential Japanese investors through research, networking, inviting them to events / trade missions and leveraging an existing network between Japanese and Luxembourgish business, government and other stakeholders. You will be occasionally expected to support Luxembourg companies’ entering in the Japanese market by supporting a Trade Desk staff in the team.
Luxembourg and Japan maintain a strong economic relationship, centered on finance, technology, and innovation. Japanese companies take advantage of Luxembourg as a European hub for developing businesses with an access to the EU market with 450 million population. In addition to the long-term presence of major Japanese financial institutions, Luxembourg welcomes Japanese technology companies such as fintech, ICT and space firms, fostering bilateral trade, joint ventures, and innovation.
Language Requirements:
- Japanese and English
- Level of language required: Fluent in Japanese and business level in English
Desirable qualifications, skills and experience:
- Experience working in a cross-cultural environment
- Experience or knowledge of the Japanese companies’ overseas activities (experience of tech and innovation sector could be of particular benefit for the role in the LTIO)
- Experience in supporting companies trading between the Europe and Japan
- Experience of delivering visits and events
